There’s nothing better than the feeling of nostalgia of when you were a kid.
The 1990s offered baseball card collectors some amazing sets and above all, easy availability of cards. The print runs were huge, and the cards were easy to get, even the best ones around.
If you still remember the good old 1990 Fleer baseball card set and if you used to own a massive stack of these cards, then you’re going to love this article.
We’re going to go over some of the best baseball cards from that set.

Best 1990 Fleer Baseball Cards
Here are the best cards that the 1990 Fleer baseball card set has to offer.
1990 Fleer Sammy Sosa RC #548
When it comes to rookie cards from the 1990 Fleer baseball set, there are not many better cards than Sammy Sosa.
Sosa was one of the most popular players of the 1990s, and perhaps one of the best, if not the best, draft picks from 1990. There’s no denying this fact, even though Sosa did face some PED allegations later down the road.
Sadly, Sosa was accused of PED use and therefore wasn’t included in the Hall of Fame, but his achievements in the league would probably warrant his inclusion.
What about the card?
The first thing you’ll notice is just how cheap and available it can be. Even though it is a rookie card of one of the best home run hitters in history, it can still be gotten for cheap.
Overall, Sosa’s rookie card is probably one of the most memorable cards from the 1990 Fleer baseball set, and you should look into getting it.
1990 Fleer Update Frank Thomas RC #U-87
Now, Frank Thomas’ rookie card doesn’t strictly come from the base Fleer 1990 set, but rather, from its updated version that came out later that year.
The reason for the lack of Thomas’ inclusion in the base set is unknown; probably because Thomas was not expected to make his debut so early on in August of 1990, so Fleer included him in their updated set only.
Despite that, this card is very popular. Thomas is, after all, a Hall of Fame inductee, and you would be mad if you wouldn’t consider getting this card.
Just like Sosa’s card, this one should be pretty easy to find and it also should be relatively cheap. So if you like Thomas and if you’re looking to get the best cards from the 1990 Fleer set, then you should certainly be looking at this one, too.
1990 Fleer Ken Griffey Jr. #513
Next up, we have Ken Griffey’s card. Griffey was one of the best players in the league during the 1990s, as he was well-known for his hitting power and his ability to lead his team to victories.
Griffey has hit 630 home runs, which is an impressive number, placing him in the all-time top 10.
In addition, Griffey is also a Hall of Famer, so just about any card that includes Griffey will be worth money, although this one is not the most expensive card you’ll ever see of this player.
As with most other cards from the 1990 Fleer set, you should be able to get it pretty easily and you shouldn’t expect to pay too much for it, either.
The only card that could be worth a bit more is the Canadian version of Fleer, which is just a tad rarer than the American version. So if you want a bit more rarity, go for the Canadian version, but expect to pay a bit more.
1990 Fleer Larry Walker RC #363
Walker won the MVP award in 1997. In his prime, he was one of the best and most fun hitters to watch in the league.
After all, he was one of the only players in history to record a batting average of over .360 for three straight seasons between 1997 and 1999.
1990 was Walker’s rookie year. Initially, the expectations weren’t that high for Walker before he made his debut, but he slowly grew into the league and started performing towards the end of the 1990s.
His Fleer 1990 rookie card should be an easy find. It should also be near the top of your bucket list if you’re looking into the 1990 Fleer set.
1990 Fleer Bo Jackson #110
If you’ve been in the world of baseball cards of the 1980s and 1990s, then you probably know Bo Jackson’s story well.
Jackson is one of the most unique players ever to play in the league. He was one of the only people on Earth to play two sports at a professional level, and both at very high levels, too.
This is one of the main reasons why Jackson’s baseball cards will always be popular, no matter what year they come from or which set they are included in.
It’s a shame that his career wasn’t continued because of injuries, but Jackson became a star both on the field and off the field, starring in many TV commercials at the time. For these reasons, Bo Jackson’s 1990 Fleer card is a must-have.
Honorable Mentions
Now, these are the main cards that you should consider, but there are also some other cards that might come to your mind if you’re looking to dive deeper into the set.
These are some cards that you might want to consider:
- 1990 Fleer Nolan Ryan #313 – you know the drill, Nolan Ryan will always be one of the most popular cards in any baseball set, especially towards the end of his career in the early 1990s when he was entering the fourth decade in baseball.
- 1990 Fleer Rickey Henderson #10 – Rickey Henderson was one of the most exciting players at the time, and there’s little surprise about just how popular his cards were.
- 1990 Fleer Randy Johnson #518 – Randy Johnson’s 1990 Fleer card also ranks highly
